Abstract

In my research, I aim to examine the digital transformation in the education system in Turkey as a sociological issue considering the opportunities, challenges, and risks. My dissertation title is “Sociological Evaluation of Artificial Intelligence and Educational Technologies (EdTech) within the Scope of The Century of Türkiye Education Model (Türkiye Milli Egitim Bakanligi Yüzyili Maarif Modeli).” In this context, I want to understand what kind of strategies the Turkish Ministry of Education has for AI policies and the future of education. Do the education policies of the Republic of Türkiye integrate digital transformation and AI strategies in The Century of Türkiye Education Model? How does The Century of Türkiye Education Model develop new methods that may give digital skills to the youth population in Turkey? In this regard, I will endeavor to study the sociological impacts and consequences of artificial intelligence and educational technologies on the education system in Turkey (particularly focusing on public colleges and high schools). My specialization area focuses on educational sociology, digital sociology, sociology of technology, sociology of artificial intelligence, social digitalization, and digital societal change. For the methodology, I aim to analyze MoNE (The Ministry of National Education) Yegitek reports (statistics, graphs, and infographics) on digital transformation as well as the content of the Century of Türkiye Education Model. Additionally, I will also have online and face-to-face semi-structured, in-depth interviews (45-60 minutes) with digital transformation AI and Edtech experts from the Ministry of National Education, Yegitek-ETKIM, and the teachers who have integrated their school subjects into AI usage and Edtech.
