Guidelines to fill the ISA individual membership form

1. ISA individual membership

ISA individual membership fees cover a 4-year period (January 1 - December 31) and include an on-line subscription to ISA journals: Current Sociology and International Sociology.

Applications received until October 15 will be processed for the current calendar year; applications received after October 15 will be processed for the following calendar year.
ISA membership fee is not refundable.

Regular individual membership is open to scholars or professionals active in sociological teaching, in research and/or in practice.  To become a member and to maintain membership, individual members must join and maintain membership in both the ISA and at least one of its Research Committees, Working Groups or Thematic Groups.  All those who participate regularly in activities of the ISA are expected to be individual members.

Membership type

ISA memberships are clasified into: Regular, Life and Student

• Regular membership: applies to all members who are not eligible for Life or Student membership.
• Life membership is available after age 70; a copy of identity documentation showing the birth date is required. It should be renewed at no cost every four years.
• Student membership (available during studies up to the first doctorate and within one year after completing the PhD). Students are requested to provide a copy of their student card (showing a valid expiration date) or other official documentation confirming their current student status. ISA membership fee depends on the country in which the documents proving student status were issued.

Economy categories  A, B, and C

Membership fees are based on country of current residence. Countries are classified into 3 categories, A, B and C, according to the Gross National Income of the economy of countries.

2. Affiliation to Research Committees, Working and Thematic Groups

Affiliation fees to join Research Committees, Working and Thematic Groups cover a 4-year period (January 1 - December 31).

Some RC/WG/TG offer discount fees for students in all countries and members residing in countries classified in category B and C.

Non-ISA members interested in joining the Committees and Groups should contact respective RC/WG/TG Secretaries.
