Purpose of the Association
The International Sociological Association (ISA) is a non-profit association for scientific purposes created with the aim of developing sociological knowledge worldwide. Its function is to represent sociologists everywhere, regardless of their school of thought, nationality, scientific approach or ideology.
To achieve these objectives, its activities are primarily focused on: seeking and developing personal and institutional contacts between sociologists and other social scholars worldwide; fostering international dissemination and exchange of information concerning developments in the world of sociology; facilitating and promoting research and training at an international level; convening worldwide meetings and congresses; and promoting publications that support its activities.
The ISA is a member of the International Science Council and enjoys the status of a non-governmental organization in its relationship with UNESCO. ISA members come from 167 countries.
