Call for Films

1st ISA Sociological Film Festival

at the 5th ISA Forum – Rabat, July 6-11, 2025

The International Sociological Association calls for the submission of audiovisual works (documentary films, fiction, experimental works, artworks, etc.) related to research in sociology or social sciences to be presented/screened during the 5th ISA Forum of Sociology, which will be held from July 6 to 11, 2025, at Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco. 

Dates for Submission: November 11 to December 15, 2024. 

  1. Objective

This Call for Films aims to present/screen sociological film production related to research in sociology and social sciences produced/directed/written by ISA & RC/WG/TG members and to promote the discussion on using moving images in sociological research.

  1. Requirements

Productions that observe the following requirements will be considered:
•    Produced in the last four years (2020 to 2024). 
•    Limited to a maximum length of 90 minutes. 
•    The author of the film (i.e., director, producer, or writer) should be an ISA and RC/WG/TG member. 
•    Those works produced in languages other than English must be submitted and presented with English subtitles.
•    The submitter author must attend the 5th ISA Forum and take part in the discussion after the screening.
•    Each author can submit up to two productions.

  1. How to submit

You will be able to fill out the submission form, from November 11, 2024.
You need to prepare:

Information on the submitter
1.    ISA Member submitter and role (director/producer/writer) 
2.    Email (as registered on the ISA members database)
3.    Academic Degree 
4.    Institutional affiliation (if any)
5.    Phone number
6.    ISA Member ID

Information on the film
7.    Title of the work
8.    Director
9.    Year of production
10.    Location of the production
11.    Duration 
12.    Abstract (maximum of 150 words)
13.    Link to the production (YouTube or Vimeo).

  1. Selection process

The selection committee, appointed by the ISA Executive Committee in cooperation with the Local Organizing Committee, will be responsible for the selection process. They will guarantee the diversity of authors, considering gender, language, and geographical origin. 

The members of the Festival Selection Committee cannot submit their films to the festival. 

  1. On the presentation/screening and discussion

The selected films will be screened and discussed at the Forum venue on the Mohammed V campus. The screening sessions will last 90 minutes from 19:00 to 20:30 on July 7-10, 2025. 

Depending on the length of the Works selected, some sessions may be able to accommodate more than one work, leaving at least 15 minutes for discussions of each screened work. 

  1. Additional information

1.    ISA and the LOC do not provide financial support for attending the presentation/screening, and the authors must register for the Forum. 
2.    Limited registration grants will be available for a maximum of one director/producer of each selected work. Grant recipients must be ISA members. 
3.    To appear in the program, the selected authors must register to participate in the Forum by March 22, 2025
4.    Any other issues not defined in this call will be decided by the Selection Committee and the Co-Chairs of the I ISA Sociological Film Festival and the President of the Forum (ISA VP for Research).
