ISA Forum of Sociology

FAQ

Proposing a Session

No but you must propose your session to a specific RC/WG/TG. If you are unsure which RC/WG/TG suits your proposal, explore them here.

There is no limit to the number of sessions that can be proposed. However, there is a limit on appearances in the program. A person may be listed in the program up to 3 times as Session Organizer, and authors and co-authors cannot present and chair in the same session. More details on the Rules for all presenters are available here

No. If your session is selected, at least one Session Organizer must be an ISA and RC member to maintain it in the call for papers, or in the program if it is an invited session. There is a limit of 3 co-organizers per session.

There can be a maximum of three session organizers. When proposing a session, you can add other session organizers after the title and description of the session. If your session is selected, at least one session organizer must be an ISA and RC member to maintain it on the call for papers.

  • Proposals for sessions at the 5th ISA Forum of Sociology must be made through the CONFEX platform, which can be accessed here.
  • To access the platform, you must have an ISA account. If you do not have it or have forgotten your password, you can create one or recover it here.
  • You must propose your session to a specific research committee, working or thematic group (RC/WG/TG). If you are still not sure which RC/WG/TG would be best for your proposal, you can explore the RC/WG/TG here.
  • On the page of each RC/WG/TG, you will also find the details of each group's program coordinator/s. You can contact them to discuss your proposal. Each RC/WG/TG selects the sessions that will be part of its program, and the ISA does not make a centralized decision.  Please note that only the sessions proposed on the ISA Forum platform will be considered. The deadline for session proposals is July 1 at 24:00 GMT, and there are no extensions.
  • You can find more information about the types of sessions and the responsibilities of the organizers here.

Yes, you can! The RC/WG/TG exists to promote and enhance international cooperation and development in theoretical and empirical sociology research and represent their sociology branches. If you want to propose a session, just identify the most suitable RC/WG/TG for your study and propose your session to them. If you propose a paper, just identify the most appropriate session for your research and propose it for that session. The 5th ISA Forum will allow you to network with colleagues in your expertise and join the RC/WG/TG of your interest!

Please note that there are two systems: the ISA system & the Confex System. At the ISA system, you manage your account, membership, download receipts, and access SAGE collections, among other member benefits. In order to propose a session, you need an account in the ISA system, even if you are not a member. With the same credentials (mail & password from the ISA System), you should access the Confex system to manage all the issues related to your Forum attendance: propose a session (until July 1 2024), propose a paper (from August 5 to October 15, 2024), register for the forum (from December 5 to March 22, 2025), etc.

Proposing a Paper

A presenter can appear in the program up to 2 times as author or co-author (oral or poster presentation, distributed paper, roundtable presentation). There can be up to 7 authors per abstract. More details on the rules for all presenters are available here.
